A simple guide to laying block paving

A simple guide to laying block paving –

Preparation:

Remove the top surface – soil, turf or existing slabs, etc. to a good firm base. The paving area should be surrounded by a firm edge restraint. Lay sub-base and compact thoroughly to an approximate depth of 100mm. Screed out 50mm sharp sand and compact thoroughly, then screed an extra 20mm of sharp sand but do not compact. Once the base is smooth up to the correct level, you will be in a position to lay your block paving.

Laying your paving block:

Laying your paving block:The paviours are simply placed on the sand, depending on the pattern you require. Laying begins on the edge or corner and proceed along one laying face until complete.

Then after making sure there is no debris on the paviours, using a rubber faced vibrating plate, pass the vibrator over the area 2/3 times to compact the area and make it even. Finally, after making sure that the paviours are dry, brush kiln dried on to the paviours and brush into the fine spaces between. Pass the rubber faced vibrator plate over the area again to tightly pack the sand into the joints.
